College Collecting...
2010...
The first TerraCycle box.
While our handmade boxes were pretty awesome,
TerraCycle sent us these nice big ones to amp up collection.
They were a ton of fun to play with...
The local one screen movie house said we could collect candy wrappers.
The theater is a town staple and a non-profit. They asked us to put an educational sign with it.
Making it brought me back to elementary school when those tri-fold boards were a science fair necessity!
2011...
At the feet of the King & Queen of the trash is a haul of semesters worth of TerraCycle collection.
Oh, first college apartment, how I miss thee.
I had such good roommates for not only letting me hoard trash in the apartment,
but dump it on our floor and sort it in the middle of the living room.
2012...
When we started collecting Solo Cups for TerraCycle,
it quickly became our most popular and prosperous brigade.
We hung sings up at parties & tailgates to encourage collection.
Solo Cups took over our balcony at least three times a semester.
2013...
My roommates did not miss the smell of stale beer wafting from the porch...
New York City: Trash Girl 2.0
I moved to Brooklyn after college to embark on a new adventure!
2014...
I discovered an organization called GrowNYC that has many awesome & amazing environmental programs.
I went to their Office of Recycling Outreach & Education orientation and got these nifty bags!
I was also armed with all the info I needed to educate the world on NYC recycling policies!
After the orientation, I walked the Puerto Rican Day Parade collecting recyclables along the route.
GrowNYC also collects compost at all of their farmers markets.
Most composting New Yorkers freeze their compost and drop it off once a week.
This worked much better than our college compost bin turned fruit fly colony.
I highly recommend this as a means to compost food scraps!
That time I figured out how to compost in LA, LIKE A BOSS...
That time I started working for the City of Glendale on their Recycling Program!
2015...
Trash Girl 3.0: The LA Edition
New sanitation system, new coast and a new roommate to impose all my ridiculously high recycling standards on!
I have my NYC recycling bags (pictured above) and I've already rescued beer bottles from the trash...
That time I coughed up an extra 22 cents to use a reusable container for my FroYo addiction...
That time I started working for the California Resource Recovery Association.
That time I started working for the City of Glendale on their Recycling Program!
2016...
My first event teaching people how to sort recycling, trash and compost!
The best gift ever! A trash truck made of recycled milk jugs. #OfficeEnvy
My Outreach table gets an upgrade!
The year of outreach, outreach, outreach!!
"I speak for the trees!" because the trees don't have tongues to advocate for resource conservation!
